Stories of Lost Grandchildren

Remarkable Ryan
by Carolynne Tatlock, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Ryan was diganosed with neufibromatosis at the age of one. They did an MRI, which came out clear. At the age of 2 they saw a tumour in the brain; nothing to worry about, it will probably disappear. At the age of 3 they saw another type of lesion, a secondary one. They waited a short period. Then after putting it through tumour board decided to do a biopsy to eliminate the big cancer word.

Dr's said they thought he would require chemo and radiation. Then go in to remove the balance of the tumour which was in the brain and thought he would possibly have a good chance. Little did we know that this type of tumour was so rare in a child (had been having many seizures) that in a month's time after the biopsy we would be rushing to the hospital in a major seizure. Then for him to be paralyzed and then a few days later on life support with the news that the biopsy was cancer.

Ryan passed away on April 5th. My children donated one organ that was acceptable and with a matching recipient for the liver of a child who is 12 years old and now living. Ryan gave him the gift of life. My children are suffering and I am too but Ryan did a great mission by the gift of life to this 12 year old boy who did not have much time left on this beloved earth.

The transplant team in Canada have mouments in the city of Sherbrooke, a plaque with Ryan's full name will be placed on the momument AMBASSADOR OF HEALTH. Ryan had just turned four years old, did not have much chance, but he did make his mark with the nurses, the Dr's neighbours, friends at daycare. He never forgot anyone's name and was a very caring wonderful child.

No one can bring him back but his life does not on in the life of a child who would never have had the opportunity to life if my wonderful children thought that this is the type of child we had, he was caring, he would have wanted someone else to have a chance.

TO MY DEAN RYAN AMBASSOR OF HEALTH"""""
