Stories of Other Loss

Jess
by Sharon, New York, U.S.A.

Jessica was my niece who was 18yrs old. Her death is so difficult for everyone because by all rights she should have never been here. See she was 3 months premature. In 1980 it was very rare for a baby born that much premature to live. I was 11 so for me she was like a little sister, she was my little doll to play with. I never played with dolls until she was born. She had everything going for her. She worked really hard in school and had been accepted to NYU to start school in the fall of this year, 2000. She had college almost paid for because of her scholarships. She was very special to her whole family because she was the first grandchild, my first niece. It just seems so unfair that God put her here for such a short while. I'm trying to figure out what was it I was supposed to learn from knowing her. I feel like she was put here for a specific purpose to teach us all something. I hope the lesson reveals itself in time. Today is our first candle lighting with the compassionate friends and it is the hardest! There doesn't seem to be anything out there for grieving aunts and uncles. If anyone knows of anything please leave a message.

I love and miss you terribly Jessica.
