Stories of Lost Children
The Accident That Took Her
by Alicia Rivera, Stockton, CA, U.S.A.
On December 16th, 2009 my beautiful baby girl left me. I was 25 weeks pregnant when I got into a car accident. My driver door had been smashed halfway through the car. I left with multiple pelvic fractures and my almost two year old son, but not my unborn baby girl. When I got to the hospital I knew she was gone. They had me strapped down so I couldnt move just in case my spine had been injured and I just kept telling myself there was no way she could have made it. When they finally did the ultrasound I turned to the tech and said "she isn't alive right?" The technician lied of course because she had to wait for the doctor to tell me. When I found out the truth that they had found no signs of life I told them it was ok, that she was in a better place and it was ok. When she was out, I held her for awhile and said my goodbyes. I didn't want to let her go, but I knew that I had too. My plans for her now are once she is cremated and the weather is better, we will plant a tree with her ashes and have a kind of service for her. She will always be in my heart and I will love her forever.
