Stories of Lost Children

My Little Girl
by Cari Mitchell, Onamia, Minnesota, U.S.A.

I have always wanted children. Not alot but a boy and a girl. I had my first child 16 years ago. Unfortunately I lost his father one month before he was born. Of course it was difficult but I think I managed very well being a single mother. Then I met someone who I thought was special. We ended up having a child together, a boy, he is 4 years old right now. I love both my sons with all my heart but I still want a girl. I gave birth to a girl on December 20, 2007. She only lived for half an hour. Her father blamed me for her death and we separated. I am having a bad time dealing with this loss and I am angry and hurt over losing my girls father also. My age and the fact that I have diabetes have made me make a difficult decision to not try and have another child. I am angry that there are mothers out there who neglect their children. I have seen women use drugs and alcohol all through their pregnancy and continue to neglect their children when they are born. Why did this happen to me?
