Stories of Lost Children

When My Son Lost His Baby Sister

by Kazusa Shinada, Marbella, Malaga, Spain

My 6 month old baby daughter, Christina was a big fighter, but on 18th March 2004 we had to let her go...

When my 6 year old son, Timony experienced the loss of his sister, he became more sensitive, especially on the subject of death, angels, and heaven. He suddenly began to create a poem for his little sister about his feeling which surprised my husband and me. He made it into a most beautiful poem for his sister, Christina and asked me to illustrate it. At that time my heart was broken with Christina's loss. I couldn't face this new life and it was difficult to cope with this new reality without her. When I listen to Timony's story I was instantly moved and immediately picked up a pencil to write down his words so they would not be lost. This incident was my biggest motivation to do something for other grieving young children. It encouraged me to move forward with my life and helped us heal as a family.

When a loved one is suddenly taken from us, our children do not understand what happened exactly. Many parents don't know how they can talk to their young children when their loved one passed away as it is difficult enough for us as adult to cope.

When I approached publishers, agents and librarians about publishing Timony's story, I was told that literature written from a child's perspective about the reality of death was very much needed. Most books available used animal, instead of human situations to illustrate this difficult aspect of life. This kind of book, written by a young boy who dealt with his loved one's death and his mother illustrated was not on the book market.

3 years has passed since we lost Christina. After careful consideration we decided to self-publish Timony's story, because when Christina passed away, Timony was given a couple of nice helpful books, but they were still difficult for his age to understand and share his feeling. So, we wanted to share our feeling together grieving children and their parents by publishing this book at the same times we wanted to donate the profit from the sale of this book to children's charities.

Our children picture book entitled,

Get Sad When Somebody Dies
Written by: Timony Shinada-Izotov
Illustrated by: Kazusa Shinada
It's been printed in U.S.A.

All are pure words form a child who faced up to his sister's death. This book is now available from:

www.amazon.com
www.amazon.ca
www.amazon.co.u.k.

But, I will appreciate it if you purchase our book directly from www.authorhouse.com (click the Book Store and type the book title or the authour's name), because I will receive a royalty fee that I will donate to children's charities.

Grieivng young children had a real experience of their loved one's death. When Timony asked me to illustrate his story, I decided to draw a picture of one family like us. I didn't want to draw a picture of an animal/insect family for his story. I do hope that "Get Sad When Somebody Dies" can help grieivng children and their parents to share their feeling together when they lost someone they loved.

Our prayer is always with you.

Lots of love,

Timony & Christina's mum, Kazusa Shinada: kazy.s@lycos.com
