Stories of Lost Children

Shaun
by Janet Andrews, Claude, TX, U.S.A.

My name is Janet, and I lost my 21 year old son, Shaun, 2 years and 8 months ago. We lost him to Addison's Disease. This is a very rare disease. Only one in 200,000 will have this diseae. JFK had this during his presidential years. We lost him within 20 hours, on Dec. 30, 01. Since his death, I have been so alone; there is really nothing like the way you feel. It is a helpless feeling. Shaun and I were best friends, as well as my only son. There are days when I cope okay, and there are days when I just feel numb all day. You know you have to go on; you must. And then the days where all you do is have flashbacks about losing him in the hospital.

Sometimes though it's the soft, sad sweet memories that you handle the best. Sometimes I can see Shaun in my mind come up to me and say "I love you mom", smile, and take my hand. Then sometimes I feel I'll be okay for a while longer. Just get through afew more days at a time. There is a book out that I havn't read yet, but have heard about. It says it best. "Death ends a life, but not a relationship".

I still have a precious son in heaven.

Love and God Bless, Janet Andrews
