My Baby Emilio

My baby Emilio passed away after being alive on earth for only 5 days. He was born Jan 26, 2002. We were shocked in the delivery room when we found out he had Down syndrome, congenital heart problems, and a multitude of other problems. I never heard him cry. He was in very critical condition and taken to another hospital facility. My husband and I went to be with him every day, often going to the hospital in the middle of the night when doctors would call us to report that his condition was deteriorating. He died on the evening of Jan 31st. We were half way to the hospital when the doctor called our cell phone to tell us to come right away. We didnt make it in time. When we got there our little Emilio was already in heaven. Only then was I able to hold my baby for the first time. Emilio changed our lives forever in just the 5 days he was here. But we miss him terribly. I feel empty inside - like a part of me has died. At times, I feel like I've got a grip on it all, but then I'll just break down in tears. I miss my beautiful Emilio. He was perfect to mommy and daddy. I pray that he knows how much we love him and miss him. We will always love our beautiful son. C., Los Angeles
