Stories of Lost Children

Almost
by Lynn Davis, Providence, RI, U.S.A.

When my girlfriend became pregnant again I was looking forward to having another child to care for. We have one daughter now 16 months. August was a month that would change our lives forever.

Everything was going fine. My girlfriend was 40 weeks and the baby was ready to be born. But, during the last week of August the baby turned breech and the doctor had said that he never in his career seen a full term baby turn breech. But we were sent home and were told to return the next day to see how the baby was and if the baby had not turned he would try to turn her and perform a c section if it was needed.

We returned the next day and she was attached to the fetal monitor but no heartbeat was found. 20 minutes later the doctor did an ultrasound and confirmed that the baby had died. She was delivered that night. She weighed 8lbs,1oz. She was beautiful.

It has been 2 months since she died and there are good days and bad days. I will always know that I will never be able to teach her to read. I will never be able to teach her to ride a bike. I will never see her smile. We almost had her. Almost.
