Our Little Angel, Dante

We are foster parents and we do receiving care when the children first come into the system. We were blessed to be able to care for a newborn Dante, whom we picked up at the hospital at three days old. We had Dante for one month and three weeks before he was moved to a long term foster home. When you get a child at birth, even though it is not your own, you become bonded for life. Dante was a sweet child who was learning to smile and had started to form his own personality. We saw him a few weeks after he left our home and I noticed that he wasn't the same child. He cried a lot and his back was all stiff. His biological mom had done drugs while she was pregnant and I wondered if these things were somehow related. Five days after that visit I received a call from Dante's foster parents and he was taken to the hospital after the foster mom checked on him from a nap to find him not breathing. They worked on Dante for over an hour but he was already in Heaven sitting on the lap of our Lord. I was blessed to have had this little angel in my life and my three children feel that blessing as well. This only gives me a small glimmer of what it is like to lose a child but I know that I will see him again. Our family has it's very own guardian angel. It was determined that he died of SIDS and I know that no matter where he was it still would have happened if it was meant to be, but I thank God my family did not have to experience losing him in our own home. God bless to all of you that have lost someone close to you either family or friend but be comforted to know that they are the ones that are in a better place and we shall meet again.
