Stories of Lost Grandchildren

My Little Munchkin
by C.A.D., Ewing TWP, NJ, U.S.A.

She was born at 25 weeks. She weighed 1 lb 11oz. They named her Kyla Antoinette Belle Holley. She was so tiny yet a fighter. I loved this infant from the moment I first saw her. She lived for 38 days. I went to see about her 37 of those days. She was beginning to show her own little personality and respond to our voices. The nurses took her out of the isolette and let her kangaroo--sleep in her Mommy's shirt so she could be nearer to Mommy. It was a lovely site to see. She was gaining weight and taking little bits of breast milk thru the tube. Things were going well. It looked like she just had to gain the weight and then she could come home. Then day 36 came and our world started to unravel. She had this infection in her bowel they call it NEC. Helicoptered her to a big hospital, emergency surgery that night and she pulled through! Then the next day back to surgery again and it wasn't so good this time. She didn't have long to live. I never got to hold her but they let me kiss her on her little head just before she went into surgery. That was the last time I saw my little munchkin alive.

Lord this hurts so bad!!! We took pictures before she got so sick and I have them. Burying this child was one the hardest painful things I have ever had to be a part of. If love could have kept her here--she'd still be alive. She was laid to rest in a pink outfit on the blanket I made for her.

I love you Kyla and I miss you. Grandma knows you are in a better place no more pain, needles, surgery. I cannot imagine my son and her Mom's grief.I pray often for them. Its been almost 2 months since Kyla went to be with the Lord, some days it still feels like the day it happened.

Sleep litle one and wait for me I'll see you again in eternity,
