Stories of Lost Children

by Emilee Back, Nicholasville, KY, U.S.A.

Eight years ago today I watched as you took your last breath. I watched as the monitor's numbers dropped. Heart rate from 70 bmp to 18 bmp, then down to 3, then 0. I watched as the nurse came in and listened for your heartbeat and as she shook her head that there wasn't one. I watched as they took of the probes and wheeled the machine out. I finally got to hold you and look at you as you lay lifeless in my arms. I remember laying you on my legs and holding your hands. I took your little hat off and rubbed your soft black hair down and rubbed my finger on your cheeks.

It is still so hard to believe that it was 8 yrs ago today that all of that happened. I still hurt and have a hard time breathing. I love you and miss you so much!!

Love - mommy
