Stories of Lost Children

My Daughter, My Sister, My Friend
by Aseneth, Apple Valley, CA, U.S.A.

Kayla, that's her name. She was born June 29, 1971. It seems like yesterday that my little girl was running around in Big Momma's back yard, pulling up her tulips. She was the oldest of two. Her younger brother misses her too. Of course she was the most beautiful baby girl. And absolutely the smartest. With leadership skills fully operational by second grade.

In 1999 she was diagnosed with BC and had a modified radical mastectomy. Afterwards she had induction chemo, then high dose chemo, and finally radiation therapy. By December 2000 she was back in California. She was back to work, writing, singing and teaching workshops. Then in 2003 'IT' was back, this time on the other breast. They gave her 6 months to live. We looked until we found a homeopathic treatment that could be used to help her (since it was advised she could not handled anymore chemo after high dose chemo). Well to make a long story short... This April 21 she began her new life in heaven.

I can't explain to anyone how I feel. I can't explain the pain or the intensity of it. Some days it seems everything is okay, but today I went with one of her friends to Target to get her baby a few things. Amazingly looking at baby clothes sent me into a downward spiral. Kayla was 35-years old, but apparently her age had nothing to do with my pain today.

I'm sorry so many other parents have suffered and are still suffering because you've lost babies, toddlers, children, teenagers and other adult children. Please accept my condolences.

I've had so much loss in the past year. My mom (who was my other best friend) passed April, 2006. I lost my home this January, and then daughter who was my sister and my friend (she was even my mentor in so many ways) Thanks for allowing me to share.

My heart is broken, that's all there is to it. And I miss her more than words and express. AEP
