Stories of Lost Children

My Littlest Angel
by Kelly Ianetti, Bushkill, PA, U.S.A.

My second pregnancy was very complicated. After having delivered a 28 wk preemie my first time around due to pre-eclampsia, I knew all of the warning signs and knew everything that could go wrong. My entire pregnancy I was worried and with good reason. At 1:14 am on July 5, 2005 my second daughter, Morgan Elizabeth Ianetti was born via emergency c-section. She was so small that her birth weight was given to us in grams instead of pounds. She weighed 475 grams which is approximately 15 ounces. They told us that the first 72 hrs were extremely critical and that her case was a minute to minute situation. The doctors told my husband and I right from the start that they would let us know if there was nothing else they could do. Things started to look up when they started discussing the possibility of giving her some of the breast milk that I had expressed. The day I was discharged from the hospital was extremely difficult because I didn't know whether or not something would happen while I was gone. The very next morning the phone rang and we knew right away that something was wrong. By the time we arrived at the hospital, she was going downhill very fast. My husband and I decided from the day she was born, that we would not want her to suffer so if we ever got to that point we would stop all efforts to save her. Approximately 20 minutes after taking her off of life support, Morgan died in my arms.

She has been gone now for 17 months and we have since added a new baby girl to our family in June 2006 however there isn't a day that goes by that we done miss her with all of our hearts. Whenever I talk about my children I also include her and I just want her to know that I will ALWAYS love and miss her.
