Stories of Lost Children

My Precious Jo-Jo's
by Amy Beaver, Richland, WA, U.S.A.

My Jo-Jo's was born March 20, 2000. His feet were so big that they didn't fit on the paper for his footprint. He was my hardest delivery of four boys. Joey or Joseph, that's what he preferred since starting kindergarten. He Was full of life! He always wore the biggest smile and had long blonde hair and blue eyes. He loved everyone, animals. He was like a little monkey swinging on our tree branches in the front yard. He was a combination of Dennis the Menace and Curious George.

On February 19, 2006, the Lord took him to a better place. That morning about 6:30, I woke up to the smoke alarm going off. I got outside with my other son and my husband ran down to the basement to find Joey. The fire had already destroyed a lot of the basement. My husband came out and we tried breaking the windows yelling for Joey but we could not find him. The police and fire trucks showed up and held us back from going back inside. We sat there helpless, crying out for Joey; the fire fighters tried going in and after five minutes they said it was too dangerous. It took until about 8:oo for them to put the fire out and find Joey's body. By then our family had been taken to the hospital and my mom's house. My mom got the call to identify Joey's body and prayed and stuck a stuffed animal of a dog with him. The fire fighter's said it was the worst fire in 25 years. It was started by my son Joey playing with a lighter in the basement and he got scared and hid in our work shop under shelves until he died of smoke inhalation.

We all love and miss our Joey everyday and know he is in a better place keeping everybody entertained watching over us. This will be our first Christmas without him. But he will be with us in spirit. I love you very much and will always be thinking of you until you are in my arms again.

Love you! Mommy
