Stories of Lost Children
I'll be alright Mom.....
by Donna, Ormond Beach, FL, U.S.A.
The last call I got from 17 yr. old son who was living in another city with his dad. I told him to be careful because he told me he had a little spill on his bicycle. He said I'll be alright Mom. I love you. I'll call you tomorrow. I never got that call from him. At 3pm. on Sept, 9, 2005...exactly one week ago today, his dad called to say Corey had gotten hit by a car on his bicycle and they were airlifting him to the hospital. I live 1 and 1/2 hour away and had no idea how bad it actually was. I threw a small bag together and loaded both it and his 13yr old brother Chris in the van heading for my son Corey. I was thinking I would be spending a few days in the hospital with him and then I would be bringing him home with me to nurse him. That was not to be...he suffered severe brain injury as well as other internal injuries. He passed away before I even got in the room. I laid him to rest 3 blocks from my home on Sept. 15th, 2005. I invited all his friends and the small chapel was packed. He had more friends in his short 17yrs than most have in 100 yrs. I visited him today and found a few trinkets and pictures that his friends have left so he will never be alone.
