Stories of Lost Children

My Baby Girl
by Becky Reed, Salem, USA

Cassandra Payge was born at12:42 am on June 14, 2000.

She was quite a surprise to me and my husband since I wasn't aware I was pregnant. She was born at 25 weeks. I didn't know I was pregnant because I have hyperthyroidism and was told by my doctor that it was very possible I wouldn't have periods. So for about 5 months or so I didn't have a period and thought nothing of it. In June, I had one. On June 13, I began cramping. The cramps grew worse as the day went on and at around midnight I called my mother who is a dispatcher at the police department and told her I was having a baby.

By the time the medics got there I had delivered all but her head. She was delivered en route to the hospital and when we got there they rushed her away. She gave me and my husband a scare around 5 am because she wasn't doing well. She started to do better
and they sent her to Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

When we arrived there she was doing well and we had lots of hope and prayed!! all day. That evening around 6 pm, we were told they had done an ultrasound and found severe bleeding on the brain. The doctors recommended we end support. I held her for about minutes before they disconnected the support and my husband held her while she died. She passed away at 8:36 pm on June 14, only 20 hours after she greeted us. We never knew she was there but the minute we did we fell in love with her. We miss her greatly but we know she is happy and has no pain.

I believe she knows that we love her and think of her always. She is our angel.
