Our Curve Ball

Our Curve Ball

Here we are 1 week and 2 days after the birth of Samuel on February 4th 2005, via C-section. Our plan of course had been for a healthy baby born in another 5 weeks time, however God had a different plan. Samuel was stillborn. Apparently he died one or two days prior to a scan we had at 32 weeks (2 days before he was born). I knew there had been something not quite right for a while, I had never been so huge with the other 3 pregnancies, nor so fatigued. I saw the specialist 2 weeks prior and he had confirmed that I was "enormous" and that Samuel was "large for dates" and so he started to question if we had our "dates" right. So he arranged for a scan at Wellington Hospital, but this took a further 2 weeks to eventuate (despite there being a radiology centre just down the road, where we could have/would have paid to check things out).

We really don’t know the "why’s"… we had at first thought that it was due to Hannah, Daniel and Joshua having "slapped cheek"/parvovirus 19/Fifth Disease when I was 6 weeks pregnant, but there was no sign of anaemia, there is also a question of perhaps Down Syndrome… maybe we will never know?

Anyway, we know that Samuel is in a better place. Daniel told me that he was playing with Grandma in heaven. It’s funny but we knew his name many month ago, despite not even knowing if he was going to be a boy !!

Samuel means "God has heard"…(heard Hannah’s prayer).

1 Samuel 3:4 "Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, "here I am."".

We still have tears and feel the pain, but we know we shall see him again.
