Stories of Lost Children

My Precious Sammy Jo
by Joyce Sullivan, Bethune, SC, U.S.A.

November 4th 2000 was the day we were planning my Samantha's sweet 16 birthday party. Sam and I left to go up town to the building where the party was going to be to decorate. She drove that morning. She was so happy and excited. Not only because of her party but she had just got her restricted licence the day before. The party was supposed to be between 7 p.m. until around 10 or 10:30 p.m. Most people began to leave. Sam asked if she could sit uptown with her friends until 12. I didn't really want to, but I thought, well I'm going to be up here anyway, so I said OK. We live in such a tiny town, and that's all the kids can do.

Sam was leaving and we yelled at each other "Bye and I Love You". She suddenly turned around and walked back up to me and put her arms around me and said "Mama,I love you and thank you for everything." I just stood there and cried. I love her so...much!

It was about 11:30 p.m. when I came through going home. Sam would be home in 30 minutes. At a few minutes after 12:00 a.m., I knew something was wrong. I tried calling around. I finally found out that she and her boyfriend took a girlfriend (who was sick) to the hospital 20 minutes away (we have no ambulance). They thought they were doing the right thing. After a few more calls I found out they had been in a car wreck. My precious little Sammy Jo was gone. We never were allowed to see her! I'll never get to hold her in my arms again!

I still don't know the real story about the girl that night but I do know that a man driving a white truck that night turned in front of the car my daughter was riding in. He has never been punished!

Samantha Joy Sullivan was born on November 6, 1984 and became an Angel on November 5, 2000.
