Stories of Lost Children

Our Precious Nick
by Sandra Russel, Dewitt, VA, U.S.A.

On June 2, 2004 my Daughter, 15, and I were getting ready to go to a sports banquet. The 13 & 7 year old were swimming and the 2 & 4 year old were in the sand box. Life was good and all the kids were happy. I called them all in cause Daughter and I had to go and the rule is all in the house before I leave with doors locked. Hubby would be home in about 30 minutes. I went back to get my shoes on and only 3 of the 4 were in the living room. We began looking for Nick and could not find him. Suddenly my daughter is screaming. She is in the pool with her dress on handing me a blue baby. My baby! I did CPR until the neighbors came. They did CPR until EMS arrived. The hospital got a heart beat back but it was too faint...he could not make it. My beautiful blonde hair, blue eyed, tanned skin, free spirited two and a half year old was gone.

He was so beautiful, loved and independent. He thought he was such a big boy! I loved him so much he was the last one, he was forever to be the baby! My baby! Now he is gone and I wish every day that we had never gotten that pool. We took every precaution to make sure it was safe and look what happened! I so dearly miss my little monkey! I love to see wildflowers now. They remind me of freedom just like my little free little boy. ~~ We love and miss you Nick~~
