Stories of Lost Children

Jacob
by Charlann Price, Tampa, FL, U.S.A.

On March 4, 2002 Jacob Alexander Price was born 6 days over due. We were living in Dothan, AL. His nanny(my mom)and his dad were there. The doctors new something was wrong but didn't know what. On the evening of March 6th Dr. Ashley came in to tell us something was wrong with his heart but didn't know what.

He said the next day you were going to Montgomery, AL. We we went there, they said it was too big for them too handle. We got to Birmingham, AL and they said you had what was called a hypoplastic left heart syndrome. That was the worst day of my life.

I spent every day with him, we were four hours from so I was able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. After a couple of weeks they sent us to Boston, MA. We were there 5 weeks then they sent us back to Birmingham. I couldn't understand what was going on.

They put a feeding tube in the middle of July. Which we found out later it was still infected. The firt part of August we started making plans to take him home, for the first time. On Aug 14th we were able to finally take you home. He was running a fever all night, I kept calling every doctor that had taken care of you. They said you were ok. On Aug 15th I took you to the pediatricians office, and that changed our lives forever.

As soon as they saw you they knew it was the infection. They sent us the hospital, to go back to Birmingham, but that wasn't going to be the case. At 11:55am they pronounced him dead. They had been working on him for an hour, but it was no use. After 5 1/2 months we had lost you. It was the darkest day of my life.

After 2 yrs it has gotten a little easier, but the pain is still there. My life has changed, but Jacob will never be forgotten.

JACOB YOU WERE AND STILL ARE THE BIGGEST PART OF MY LIFE.

THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES.
