Stories of Lost Children

My Daughter Samantha
by Brenda Bratton, Pine Bluff, AK, U.S.A.

My daughter Samantha Marcia Dianne Rhodes was murdered at the age of 12, March 24th 1998. Although it has been five years since she was killed, it seems only a short when I last held her in my arms. I miss her love, I miss the hugs and kisses. I miss hear laughter, her excited ways when she opened gifts; her eyes would glow and her smile captured my heart. Samantha was a personal gift from God; her mother who could no longer afford to take care of her gave her to me at the age of seven months old. At that time I had three sons and could not have anymore children. Soon, after my youngest son turned four years old, out of the blue I was given a baby daughter who captured my heart at that very moment. She was beautiful, blue eyes, blonde hair and healthy. Our lives were bonded by the love we shared. She loved her brothers and me very much. People use to say she looked just like me.

I will go on without her tender touch, but she will remain in my heart for the rest of my life. Oh how I ache to hold her, to smell her hair to cuddle with her watching her favorite movie, to hear her sing her favorite songs. I will miss watching her play softball, setting next to her in church praying together. These things are missed and there will always be emptiness in my heart. You may read the story of her life and death at her web page (MY Only Daughter)

May God be with each of us through our sorrow and grief; with God we will be strong.
