Stories of Lost Children

Nicolaas 10 / Asthma

by Malynda, Stockton, CA, U.S.A.

10/23/02

Each day that I wake is in misery and emptiness without my son, who was diagnosed with asthma at the age of one year old in 1992. He had manageable asthma, which we cared for at home with neubulizer treatments for ten years. While having a treatment on October 24, 2001, he began to cough. A few minutes later, after I franticly called 911, his lips turned blue, he said "I don't want to die!" twice, and he collapsed in my arms. I know he died that evening at home in my arms. He was dead on arrival to the hospital, which was about 20 minutes after he fainted. He was revived and placed on life support after administering CPR for over 90 minutes. Regardless of the known brain damage, he and I were flown to Oakland Childrens Hospital where we remained for 2 horrific days. Then on October 26, 2001, he was removed from life support and died on my lap. The visions of his death and guilt torture me day and night. I miss my son more than words can explain. He is everything to me. I died right along with him.

I would like ANYONE to contact me who has lost a child. Please send mail to:
