Stories of Lost Children

My Dear Little Man
by Diane Swale, Tauranga, , New Zealand

29.11.00 - I gave birth to my only child Nathan Bradley Swale. Nathan was 3 weeks overdue. I ended up getting induced on the 28th November mid morning but nothing started happening until midnight. By that stage I was just buggered! In the end I had to go into a emergency 'c' section, I remember being rushed into theater with my blood pressure sky rocketing and Nathan's going down. I almost lost him that day.

12th July 2002 was the worst day of my life. I was on holiday with Nathan in Australia visiting friends. I woke and saw Nathan in his portacot and he looked like he was sleeping. I went to wake him, but he had already passed in the early hours. My god it was a nightmare. I remember standing over Nathan looking at him and praying for his little back to rise and fall. Sadly it wasn't to be. My little man passed away at 19 months. Nathan was a healty boy, full of life and always on the go. No signs the day before could have alterted me to this tragedy, only he was quiet and looked tired.

His cause of death has been put down to cot death, but I'm still looking for answers. How can a perfectly healthy boy suddenly go? I was sleeping in the same room as Nathan and I didn't hear anything. I woke to find him asleep but with his head turned in my direction. I like to think he said a quiet goodbye before he was taken to God.

The house is so quiet without him.

I miss you darling. Love always Mum xo
