Stories of Lost Children

Greatest Gift
by Rebecca Eskridge, Onley, VA, U.S.A.

On June 2nd of 1999 a gave birth to a beautiful 9lb. baby girl. Her name was Aubrey Grace. Seconds after the doctor put her in my arms. The nurse grabbed her out of my arms and ran down the hall. Not knowing what was going on. They came back in to tell me something was wrong and that they had to send her to Kings Daughters Children Hospital in Norfolk. Hours after arrival, the doctors said she had a Congenital Heart Defect, called Transposition of the Great Arteries. She was going to have open heart surgery in 6 days. On the 8th at 6am, she went into surgery. Things were going well they said. Aubrey went into recovery about 3pm. She was doing fine considering what she had been through. And at 12 midnight she went into cardiac arrest. God must have needed her, because she went to be with him. The doctors said her heart was ok and that she died from NEC.

Something that babies get that can be fixed but she wasn't strong enough to handle it. I had a great pregnancy. I was very healthy. I was not a Christian at the time. So I blamed God and everyone. I wanted to take her home. It took me 16 months of anger to reach a point of knowing that I needed help. With the help of a support group and God. It's now 2 1/2 years later and I miss her as much now as I did that horrible day that I had to give to the doctors and go home without her. But I can say now that Aubrey Grace was the Greatest Gift I have ever known. She has given me a New Life.

Thank you my Angel and I will see again someday.

I Love You Mom
