Stories of Lost Children

An Angel Not Too Far Away
by Sonia Cordiva, Lancaster, TX, U.S.A.

On April 6, 1997, I had a beautiful boy who I named after his father. He was the perfect son and big brother to our 4 month old son. It all changed too fast when he hit his head on our coffee table one morning while watching his favorite t.v. show. I thought he was fine. He had no bruise and there was no way of me telling that he was bleeding inside. We rushed him to the hospital when he passed out on us. From there, they transported him to Children's Hospital in Dallas. On the way, he got worse. He had major brain swelling and they couldn't keep the pressure down. He went straight to the operating room and basically all the blood in his brain was pushing it off to one side and that is what caused the swelling. He went into a coma the next day. We stayed at the hospital for the whole week, and then on Jan. 26, 2001 , the doctors considered him brain dead and the machines were keeping him alive. I didn't feel his presence any more. We told all our family and they came and watched as our son was taken off the ventilator. My husband held him as we heard his last heartbeat. I miss him so much that it hurts, but I just want to thank you for letting me tell my story.

God Bless
